1000th hit on my blog

So, here it is, finally. My blog reached the 1000 hits. When I started this blog last year, I haven't updated it frequently, I just wrote about the things that interested me then, just some stories about my private life and the US election. After that I wrote about Malayisa. I remember I only had about 250 hits until then. And now, when I'm back from Malaysia, I literarly write about everything (as the blog description says) and I write a lot. So my hits increased rapidly in these 3 months. And due to the live tracker, I can see which things attract my blog the most: The Breitling posts get many hits by people from all over the world. Then there's the Create your own Southpark character. I don't know why this post is so popular, I guess many people search for that stuff. And the third most popular post these days is about Alexis Sy Go, the current miss Manila. I noticed that people who search for this topic are mostly from the Philippines. Interesting. The other thing that enhances my hits are my fellow bloggers, who regularly drop by and post a comment. They are all incredible bloggers themselves, their speak perfect English and always post some very interesting and funny stuff. I'm learning a lot from them. Most famous among them are: Tales, Prometheus and Junjie. They commented more than once. There's a number of people who only comment 1 time and never return. And the worst of them post some spam (usually Chinese), which I delete immediately. Let's hope I will get many more hits, but still remain myself and be true to myself and write about everything. Thank you, everbody, who dropped by. I appreciate. [Cartoon: Source]

Tomorrow is my Doomsday

So... I wonder what will happen tomorrow. I will have 'the talk'. Wow. What is there left to say after so many days of virtually no talk at all? Will I be crushed? I don't know how to prepare myself. I don't know what to say, what to expect. I'm having so many theories about all kinds of outcomes. It's hard to deal with matters of the heart. I may feel numb today, but maybe it'll crush me tomorrow. Or maybe it won't. I just know I am worn out because of all this. I just want it to stop. I want my harmony back. Even if it's not a real harmony. I don't wanna talk about who's wrong or right, who's fault it is that everything is the way it is. Maybe it'll just be simply over and not a new set of conditions. I really don't know. It is what it is now. I guess it's over when it's really over. Is it? Will it be? We will see.

To be continued...

Laura Ling and Euna Lee, we are with you!

The two American journalists abducted by North Korean brutal regime, Laura Ling and Euna Lee, are in their captivity since 17th March. People in their communities gathered to support them (source). I ask myself when will the media wake up and report more on this case? I've been closely following this situation and I really hope these two brave women will survive their ordeal in one of the most brutal regimes in the world - North Korea. I just hope for people to wake up, show more support. I feel for the families of these two women. Forget about human rights in North Korea! Forget about freedoms! Forget about humane treatment. Unless they are going to use these women to blackmail America with something, they won't treat them with any dignity. Let's hope they get released soon! I hope quiet diplomacy is working. It must be. It must.

Students and community gather in support of Euna and Laura.

Please, release Laura and Euna immediately!

Swine flu, new jackpot for the pharmaceutical industry?

How can we know that the new reports on 'Swine flu' aren't just a media scare driven by the pharmaceutical industry to make money? What happened to bird flu? Where was the pandemic? Come on! 80 people died because of swine flu... and maybe soon it will be 100, 200... even if there's 1000 or more people dead all over the world due to 'Swine flu'. Should the rest of the 6+ billion people seriously be afraid? I won't jump on this train, I'll keep my cool. Besides, some of the people who got it, survived. It's not like AIDS. We should put more money fighting HIV (which really kills millions of people!) rather than create a mass fear over this 'Swine flu', that is more media driven rather than a real threat. If tomorrow something like another 9/11 or another Tsunami happens, would people still be afraid of 'Swine flu'. Would we be still talking about it?

Chinese new year is here! 恭喜发财!

Happy Chinese new year! That's what I wish to all Chinese people and that's what I've been hearing all the time lately. I barely have time to go online, because we're going visiting relatives every day, going to some temples, meeting with friends and late in the evening playing majong until the early morning. Everyone is so excited and happy.
I learned many new things about Chinese culture during these days:

1 The reunion dinner: It's 1 day before the New year. Every sister and their boyfriends or husbands came. We all wore something red and eat the famous 'steam boat'. It was fun.
2 Visiting the relatives: This part is interesting, because you see how important are family ties in Chinese culture. You get to know so many people, distant cousins, uncles, who come from various places just to go and visit grandma. First day of visiting everyone must gather at the oldest living relative's house, in this case grandma's house.
3 Chinese new year songs: You hear them everywhere! They have a catchy melody.
4 Oranges: Everytime you come to somebodie's house, bring 2 oranges, it's a custom. If not you're in trouble.
5 Tings that bring good luck: Hong bao (money in red packages), red colour, touching a particoular fish, oranges... many many things.
6 Mahjong (Ma jiang): Chinese people love to play it during Chinese new year, they like to gamble as well, but luckily just for small amounts of money.
7 Eating extensively: Food is abundant. I think I will gain some weight! :)

So, I will be full of impressions during this Chinese new year. It is a unique experience for me and I will update you all on the things ahead. We're just half way thru. Chinese new year is celabrated 15 days!

Victory for Barack Obama!

Finally!!! It happened beyond our wildest dreams! Barack Obama won the elections on 2008 and he will be the next president of the USA. I am so proud of the US people and I really don't know, if it's more of a Obama victory or a more of a victory of the American people.
I was awake all night, I watched CNN and some other programmes... It was just incredible, when we saw how he took Pennsylvania, Ohio... I almost thought this is it! But I was still sceptical... When i saw his lead in Florida, I was confident! He exceeded all expectations - it was a landslide victory. And his speach was breath taking. A moment we will always remember. America is truly a land of opportunity and equality, you just need to work hard, be honest and have ideas. He beat the establishment of his own party and the best candidate of his rival's party. I can't fully grasp what this win means. It has to sink in...
I also need to praise McCain for his marvellous concession speech. He showed his real face, that's the McCain we missed in these months. You can clearly see how relieved he was, how gracious and humble. I hope he will have a long life. He's a great American. Unfortunately, his campaign sucked, had too many lows, too little highs.
I'm also happy that there's no more Sarah Palin. She was really a disgrace for this year of change. This was McCain's biggest mistakes. People were more scared of Palin than Obama.
And now, I hope America can head into a new direction of working together with the rest of the world, solving global problems together, ending wars and restoring confidence in the West.

Good luck!

End of Beijing

The Olympics are over! Finally! And all the commotion surrounding this event is finally over, too. What-a-relief! This was really one of the most phoney Olympics in our life time. From the chinese and western perspective! And you can create breathtaking ceremonies and what not, but these games showed in what kind of world we are living in. From the perspective of sport, we had some exceptions like Phelps, Bolt, Steiner, who gave us some precious moments, goose bumps and made us forget the phony olympic comittee, the chinese delegates, who were showing a facade that's far from the reality. Behind it are people who suffer, who have no rights or prospect for the future. But that happens, as I said, if you give the games to a dictatorship. Well, after 1988 in Seoul, South Korea changed. But will China? I don't think so. The communist party is now much stronger. The propaganda is reinforced, the censorship is tighter. It's a big bullshit now. While the whole world is tearing up at the closing ceremony, in Beijing's hutongs people struggle to survive. But we knew that in 2001 and we know that in 2008. Well, I can't fight something that's impossible to fight. So all these injustices are for the Chinese to fight. Let them struggle for their own freedoms. China is great, huge, too complicated. What is China? You can't define it. You can't change it from outside. And these games won't change a thing. That's what we should know before. We made a big mistake. Only 1 thing is positive: At least the games gave 3 weeks to some simple chinese people to forget their life's struggles and hardships. 3 weeks of a 'perfect world', created by a perfect stage - the new buildings, the well enacted happiness and unity... But we all know, the cute little girl didn't really sing, the fireworks were't all real... it was phoney and fake, only the athletes were real! My greatest respect to them! We saw great sport events with real honesty, unity, effort and strife for the better. The athletes showed us, what is the true olympic spirit.

Beijing Olympic Games

Aren't you sick of those repeated criticisms of the Chinese government on issues such as freedom of speech, Tibet, free press and internet censorship? I mean, what were those, who gave the olympics to China, thinking? That in few years China will become a Western democracy? After China's troublesome history they didn't know that? You just can't make the largest culture on earth follow your way of thinking in few years. China's been known for changing slowly, what happened in recent 25 years is already 100 times faster than the years before 1980. Yea, I condemn surpression of their own people and minorities. It's far from a perfect country. This year is really the year of China, but until now, more in a negative sense. Many bad things happened while China was in the spotlight of the world this year. 8 is the Chinese lucky number and I read, that many Chinese people wonder if that's still the case. Recently I'm thinking: Get over with these games already! I was never a big fan of olympics, I prefer the football Eurocup or Worldcup instead, but anyway, because of so much commotion before the games, I think I won't be able to escape them. I haven't watched the games 4 yars ago. But now there's nothing more anticipated than these games. It's only 3 weeks, and then? What will China do? Nothing probably. They will continue the same politics with fast money and slow political changes. They will face big problems and they will have to deal with them. We can condemn them or not, we can't change China and its course. We can only observe how it progresses. We have to accept that not all cultures will develop freedoms like us. I guess the people of China have accepted the way it is, if they don't like it, I think only they can change it. Whatever we in the West will say, the Chinese media won't talk about it, the Chinese people won't know.
So why bother? Why try? We will only make things worse... Let's not politicize the games. It's about athletes competing, it's about them, their carreers, not about which political ideology is right or wrong.
I congratulate to all the excited Chinese people who are proud to host the olympic games at home. I'm happy for them and I'm sure they will be great friendly hosts. They are the ones who will bring changes to China in future, let's not behave like some almighty teachers who wanna lecture them what's right and what's wrong. Let them have their games. It's too late to bother now. Few months later everybody will focus on the new President of the United states of America! And China will be far far away.

Yes we did it!

Finaly!!!! Barack Obama made it! He clinched the nomination of the Democratic party. America is finally back on track. Congratulations! This exciting roller coaster finally came to a stop. I've been paying close attention to this race since the beginning. Nobody would expect such a dramatic race with so many ups and downs and partly it really got ugly. This is now forgotten. Justice prevailed, the rules weren't changed to serve Hillarie's intentions. Now let's start bringing people together, America, and elect an intelligent and diverse president. The rest of the world begs you. Let's end the Bush-blunder once and for all. Good luck!
