A Remake I Actually Want to See

Most of you are familiar with the amazing Terry O'Quinn from his role as John Locke on ABC's "Lost." But he first made a name for himself in Joseph Ruben's low-budget 1987 thriller The Stepfather. Co-starring "Charlie's Angels" alum Shelley Hack, The Stepfather is a grim tale about a serial killer who ingratiates himself into the lives of a widower and her children, only to reveal his true nature after it is far too late.
This October sees the inevitable remake, starring Penn Badgley ("Gossip Girl") and Dylan Walsh ("Nip/Tuck") in the role originated by O'Quinn. If you are a regular, you know of my general disdain for movie remakes. But thanks to JA over at MyNewPlaidPants, I got a look at the official trailer and have to admit, it looks as good, if not better, than the original.
The movie also stars a couple of other other TV hotties, "Oz" and "Law and Order: SVU" hunk Christopher Meloni and Kyra Sedgewick's "The Closer" co-star, Jon Tenney. In the remake, first Dad (Tenney) is still alive, and Stepdad Walsh seems slightly more psychotic. The always amazing Sela Ward ("Sisters") plays the unsuspecting mom and "ER" alum Sherry Stringfield is also along for what looks like a suspenseful ride.
Here's the trailer; judge for yourself:

While it may not be on my "Must See" list, the remake of The Stepfather will certainly be on my "Must Rent" list.
More, anon.
